5. ELEVATION

"When we move the arms up from below, it means that we start from the material world and move up to the Divine World. This is evolution. Moving the arms down from up high is involution: from God down toward the earth. When we go up to God, we should bring something. Moving down to earth from above, we bring something precious which God has given us and which will be a blessing for us as well as for others."

Both arms are moved upwards at the same time and then brought downwards and backwards. The lifting of the arms is the receiving of the new, the inspiration which is coming from the Divine World. The bringing of the arms down and back signifies that as we receive the new we put the old behind us. This movement of the arms expresses the great power that moves people onwards on the path of Life just as a boat is moved ahead by the lifting and bringing down of the oars. It represents the awakening of the longing in the human soul for the Supreme. It is a call to all souls to start walking along this path.

Description

Music: "First day of Spring" - 26 measures.

Starting position
(Back to Exercise # 4)

The last position of the previous exercise is the starting position for "Elevation," continuing without interruption; weight on the left foot.

Movement sequence
(The measures are marked in the musical score)

1st measure, 1st beat: step forward with the right foot. On the 1st, 2nd and 3rd beats, both hands are lifted forward and upwards almost to the vertical [In other description: "both hands are in a diagonal at an angle of 67.5 degrees."], palms forward.

2nd measure, 1st beat: step forward with the left foot. On the 1st, 2nd and 3rd beats, the parallel arms are brought downwards and behind the body, palms facing naturally backwards.

As in the previous exercise, the hands each describe a natural arc while ascending and descending. These movements continue until the end of melody.

On the 3rd beat of the last measure, the hands do not go back. Instead, the right hand is placed in front of the chest with palm down and thumb touching the chest, while the left hand is placed on the hip, thumb pointing backwards.

The first ten exercises are performed without interruption.
