RECEIVING AND GIVING

During a morning walk the Master said:

"Two Laws exist which human beings must abide by: receiving and giving. Man receives and gives. An interchange must always occur in nature: man needs to receive and to give.

"Man wants to possess things. Can a person possess the air? He can only inhale and exhale the air. In a similar manner as you inhale and exhale the air, so you need to give after you have received. Inhalation represents receiving, whereas exhalation represents giving. If one does not exhale, he will not be able to receive the fresh air anew. Once having given, a person becomes capable of receiving.

"Suffering occurs when one starts to receive more than he gives. Fruit trees give all to people. Man must learn from their generosity. Be generous: give abundantly.

"One needs to see himself as a mailman. When he is delivering letters, he is giving. Man is compensated for delivering letters as required. If he does not deliver them promptly, he will be held culpable. He will be asked, 'What have you done with the letters?' We are only mailmen because all things in the Universe - light, air, water, clothes -all things come from God. Hold onto those Divine Blessings which come your way for a time and then give them away. Only hold onto that which you need. Relinquish the rest: share it with others.

"Compliance to law exists in nature. Should someone come to me when I have only one apple, I will tell myself, 'Either I can eat it or he can.' And so, I give the apple to him. A little while later, I meet another man who gives me two apples. Compliance to the laws of Nature lies in this: that which I think, feel or do for others will occur to me as well. According to this law, you will receive as much as you have given."
