Wherever the Master might be, some work would always be created. With his presence, he would gradually, unnoticeably, without making any plans ahead of time, improve our surrounding. Thus around him, quite naturally, everything would become more beautiful.
To do some work with the Master was not only pleasant, but the work would acquire a special meaning and significance. It was as if everything was imbued by some unknown Life. The Master imparted a certain idea to even the most insignificant work. He watched everything which was happening around him: the weather and the changes which would take place; the difficulties which would be encountered in the work and how we would manage to overcome them; who and how many of us would participate. We all had the feeling that he was communicating with the Intelligent World which is invisible to us. The Language was unknown to us, but at times, the Master would give us the translation.
For him, all things were like fine instruments that would indicate which Law of the Intelligent Nature was at work in any given moment. The wise man, who abides in the Unity of Life, can interfere sometimes to divert certain forces or give way to others, to call for the action of one Law or another. In such a case, he is acting as a representative of the Great Intelligence. His actions appear to be both prophetic and miraculous. Being able to change the pace of great events, it is not necessary to move mountains in order to attract a certain Law of living Nature. It is sufficient to move a small stone if one does it with knowledge and understanding.
While studying the steep slope in front of the house, the Master discovered a small wellspring. The water was barely dripping. He caught it carefully, gathering it all in a small basin. He then built a path to it, complete with steps. He implanted in this work an Idea and named the wellspring The Wellspring of Good: the Divine Center which directs Life itself.
When the wellspring was dedicated, the Master said, "Life is a continuous process of unveiling the Divine Blessings. The whole of life is the constant discovery of things that have been lost."
We accomplished the work of the day successfully, being gladdened by a feeling of completeness which one experiences when one works in accordance with the living Nature and receives from it everything he needs, in other words when he has given rightly and has received rightly.
After completing the work, we gathered around our beloved Master beneath a large walnut tree. For a while we stood silently, listening to the voice of awakening life which was flowing through every branch, through every bud of every tree. The first birds of spring had arrived and were joyously chirping in the branches.
With an expression of gratitude on his face, the Master looked around and then said:
"Man should be glad for everything which surrounds him - for the wellsprings, the stones, the sun.
"From Nature, man will learn the laws of perfectibility and how to apply them in his life. Everything exerts an influence upon man. He stops in front of a wellspring; the wellspring influences him. He stops in front of blooming carnations; these influence him, too. It is important that when he stops at the wellspring or at the blossoming carnations that his consciousness participates and is not distracted by the thinking of other things.
"Be attuned to Nature and receive from her knowledge and energy. Man needs to connect with Nature. If he makes the proper connection with her, he will learn in one day as much as he would from a professor in twenty years. Nature is generous to those who love her and to those whom she loves. When there is no love for Nature in a man, she will wait for as long as is necessary, until the time comes when his consciousness awakens.
"I desire for you to connect with the forces of the Intelligent Nature and with all good people on earth. When you attain this, energy from all sides will start to flow to you.
"When we are able to perceive and sense things, then Reality is within our reach. When we see things without being able to understand them, we are not attuned to them. You see the sunrise. If you come to understand that the sunrise is a manifestation of the Life of the Evolved Beings, you are then attuned to Reality. Today's beautiful weather is a manifestation of their good thoughts and desires.
"Hold all plants and animals in your consciousness as God's Creation. If you do this, all your affairs will be put in good order. Man must arrive at that state in which he will simultaneously be able to observe and be aware of things. This is a privilege which is difficult to achieve and requires great effort. You will then arrive at the Reality of all things. A man who has the Reality proceeds to help others. For a man to attune with Reality means that he will be able to perceive Life from without and to sense Life from within; then he is truly in communion with Nature.
"In the evening go out and give your attention to the stars. Choose a star, follow its way and observe with which other stars it is connected. The stars exert an influence upon man.
"When you come to a beautiful and healthy tree, lean against it;
make the effort to enter into communication with the life within. You will be able to draw energy from the tree, and you will feel refreshed.
"Whenever a man has a conflict with those who surround him, he needs to draw energy from Nature: from the stones, trees, wellsprings and grass. Nature is the only thing that can help you. When a man finds himself in the midst of nature, he opens his heart to his family and all those around him. The mountains, too, have an influence on you - so does every river. A river which flows in the eastward direction has one kind of influence; while a river flowing westward - another.
"When you are in the midst of nature, be observant. For example, how are you going to find your way when you are surrounded by fog and have no compass? Usually one finds more moss on the northern side of stones than on the southern side. But there is also another method:
to face all directions. When you turn toward the north, you feel a certain calmness: you are not confused. If you want to find the east, you will feel that from there comes something good: something is flowing to you. Once you find these two directions, the other two are easy to find.
"God loves those who work, who study. When I see a wellspring, I sit down and have a conversation with it. You will say, 'What a strange man - to talk with a wellspring.' What would you say about your accounting books? You sit in front of them, open a page and say, 'This man owes me 25, 000 leva; the other - 50, 000 leva. I should send them to
jail.' Who is wiser? He who enjoys the small snowdrop and the wellspring and converses with them or the one who opens and closes his accounting books?"
