FAITH AND KNOWLEDGE

During an afternoon conversation, the question about the interrelationship between faith and knowledge was answered. The Master said:

"Faith is related to knowledge. We can obtain access to positive knowledge only through faith. Faith precedes knowledge, and knowledge precedes faith. You cannot believe unless you have knowledge, and you cannot know unless you have faith. There is this Law: through his faith in God, man attracts Wisdom. Only the men of genius have faith; the talented people have beliefs; while the ordinary people have superstitions. As your faith grows, so does your knowledge grow. As soon as you grow in knowledge, you grow in faith as well. If faith becomes stronger, but knowledge does not grow - this is not true faith, but belief. And thus, as an inner striving of the spirit, faith leads man to the Realm of Knowledge.

"The basis of a man' faith lies within his knowledge from past centuries which has been tested, proven and examined.

"There exists a connection between the mind of man and the Supreme Intelligence of God. Faith is based upon this connection. To believe in God means to connect with Him, to establish contact with Him. The Power of God then flows through man. True faith, therefore indicates the creation of a continuous connection with God, since a relationship with God can be established only through faith. His Powers will flow through us. For this reason, I call faith the Law of Nourishment. The Law says: faith is the connection by which the Divine Forces flow into our souls.

"What is faith? Faith indicates the opening of my window so that clean air and light may enter. This means that faith makes it possible for man to receive Divine Energy. Through faith, man attracts the forces which rejuvenate him.

"While we are living on earth, we are surrounded by the Divine, by the Eternal Life. If you could connect with the Whole Flow of the Great Life - even if you were on your deathbed - Life would begin to flow in you again. For this, one must have a faith stronger than the greatest adversity which interferes with the balance of the human organism.

"Faith in God indicates that you are connected with the Whole of Life. If this were the case, everyone would come and give you help. This one can test. If you are not capable of coping with the difficulties of life through faith, then this is not true faith. If I believe in God who abides in me, I will believe in every man.

"The Dove symbolizes the Spirit of God: it is a symbol of innocence; the Lamb - of meekness. The Grain of Wheat is a symbol of patience, and the Virgin is an emblem of purity. Innocence, meekness, patience and purity - these are the qualities of faith through which all obstacles in the world can be overcome.

"Man can walk through life and apply Love only with faith. Faith has practical applications in life. If you are in bankruptcy, if you are ill, if you have other hardships - apply living faith, and everything will be overcome.

"When a rich man believes that he may become impoverished, he is unhappy. When the poor man believes that he may become rich, he is happy. This law applies to everything.

"Some people believe that faith is a complete and static process. No, faith is a continuous process.

"You complain that you lack something in your life. Be glad for this scarcity. If you lack this or that, believe in God; you should believe in yourself as well.

"The slightest doubt that is born in someone's mind with respect to the Divine, has the power to postpone a Divine Blessing for at least one day. We are always hesitating. There is a Law which is unknown to people: as soon as doubt enters you, as soon as the slightest doubt penetrates you - even if no one else would know about it - you lose the Divine Blessing. The slightest doubt that might enter your mind will attract the greatest adversity to you.

"When someone is ill and complains or has doubts - if he has no peace - he will not recover; he is not able to bear even the smallest of trials.

"There is no heroism in doubt. Doubt is faint-heartedness. Doubt is a setback for those souls which are lagging behind in their development.

"Stop having faith and you will understand what faithlessness means. When a man attains living faith, he changes fundamentally: his eyes become clear, his facial muscles become flexible. Something special emanates from him. He becomes compassionate towards people's suffering, tender and attentive towards all. When he has this faith Love comes to visit him."
